Reiki

Reiki is a simple and natural hands-on (light touch) holistic therapy which originated in Japan by Mikao Usui in 1922. Reiki gently moves through your body during a session and it is understood to stimulate the body’s natural healing systems and promote healing on all levels helping to restore balance to mind, body and soul.  Reiki treatments are perfectly safe and deeply relaxing leaving clients feeling calmer yet energised after their session which often lasts long after their treatment. A perfect therapy for clients simply seeking a sense of calm and peacefulness or those in need of additional support during times of stress or health issues. Clients remain fully clothed for a Reiki healing apart from removal of shoes.

“Reiki invites harmony and happiness into your mind, body and soul, gently guiding you back to your true self.”

I respect and enjoy all of the different styles of Reiki available today but I personally decided to become a Jikiden Reiki practitioner in addition to my original Reiki trainings as it retains the original teachings and techniques from Japan maintaining its grounding, simplicity and depth with no western influences.  Jikiden translates to ‘directly passed down’. Rei translates to ‘soul/spirit’ (more commonly known to be translated as universal life force) and ki translates to energy.

During a session you will lie on the couch and I will gently place my hands on your head and other various positions on the body. Reiki will flow from my hands and you may feel some or all of the following sensations: warmth, intense heat, coolness, tingling or wave like sensations. You may also see flashes of colours. These are all indications that Reiki is flowing and working its way through your body. No Reiki treatment is ever the same, you experience something different each time you have a session.  Reiki can help with many issues but the most commonly reported are relaxation, sleep, grief, emotional trauma issues and general life and work stress issues.

Please note that Reiki is never intended to replace any medications you may be taking and a Reiki practitioner will never try and diagnose a condition or illness. You can still benefit from a single session but a course of at least three treatments is generally recommended to facilitate healing on a deeper level. Many clients then choose to have a ‘maintenance’ session periodically to suit their lifestyle.  Some clients choose to have sessions on a far more regular basis if they are seeking support with a particular ailment or emotional issue.
